As a child growing up in Belize, Pamela suffered much with footwear. She remembers always having a band aid or cotton ball somewhere on her feet especially when she got new shoes. Even into adulthood, she walked the sidewalks many times in Belmopan swinging her shoes in her hand because they “hurt”. Because of this, she refrained from using closed shoes and used mostly sandals.
The only air-conditioned shoebox in the world!
Later in life, being married to a German she was introduced to Birkenstock footwear and went into much research about their products. Finally on December 14th 1998, they held a “tea party” in an unfinished room of their new house and invited a few guests to attend. That event became the birthday of “The Shoe Box”.
The time between then and now was filled with tireless endeavors to introduce and educate the population of Belize in the importance of comfortable and healthy footwear.
Today, “The Shoe Box” is located in the country’s capital and serves the entire nation with genuine Birkenstock footwear and its other licensed brands.
"I’ve been buying Birkenstock shoes from the Shoe Box in Belmopan for the past 6 years. Several friends had told me how comfortable they were but initially I was reluctant to purchase them because I thought they were expensive. However, when I developed pain in my back I decided to purchase a pair and that was it. They really were very comfortable and felt as if they were made for my feet. The pain in my back disappeared and I’ve been wearing Birkenstock shoes ever since."
